Granular Newsletter - September 2008

The newsletter for the month of September is out. This is the fifth edition of Granular Newsletter. Fourth edition was in July 2008.

Catch it here: http://www.granularproject.org/content/newsletter/2008/09/

Note: With this newsletter, we announce that the newsletter would be a semi-regular one, contrary to being "monthly". But we'll try our best to release an issue per month.

Granular 1.0 RC release

It is my pleasure to announce the availability of Granular 1.0 RC, the last development release before the final Granular 1.0. This release is more stable, user-friendly, usable, and more fun to use. Quite some bugs have been fixed, improvements made, updates done; thanks to your constant feedback on the previous release (Granular 1.0 Preview).

Granular 1.0 will be the most ambitious release for the Granular Project, and this release is just another step in that direction.

I want to thank all the developers and contributors in Team Granular and all the members of Granular Community Forums who helped achieve this release.

Granular Newsletter reinstated

After a suspension of about 6 months, the Granular Newsletter (your monthly Granular update) has been reinstated. This month's edition is the third edition and comes out after about 1 year from the previous edition.

Granular 1.0 Preview release

It is my pleasure to announce the availability of Granular 1.0 (Preview), the successor to Granular 0.90. Built on huge improvements over the preceding version, this release is more stable, user-friendly, usable, and more fun to use. Granular 1.0 will be the most ambitious release for the Granular Project, and this release is just one step in that direction.

I want to thank all the developers and contributors in Team Granular and all the members of Granular Community Forums who helped achieve this release.

The 2008 repository

Today is the release date of Granular 1.0 Preview, and on this auspicious occasion, I am pleased to announce the 2008 repository of Granular, on which this release is based. You can add this repository in Synaptic Package Manager, using the following information, to get access to the latest RPM packages in the Granular's Repository:

URI: http://www.granularproject.org/content/repo/
Distribution: granular/2008
Section(s): e17 kde main extras

(In the "Section(s)" field, you can optionally add the "test" section as well if you want to have access to the latest packages that are not yet ready for prime time. These packages usually include the latest/unstable releases of packages.)

Announcing Esto Vox, the next Granular release

Team Granular is pleased to announce that the codename for the upcoming release of Granular has been decided. The codename was suggested by one of our Community Forums staff members, Aquafire, and was agreed upon by the others (forum staff members).

The codename for the next Granular release, Granular 1.0, is Esto Vox. Esto Vox means "Let us speak (together)". Just as a reminder, in case you don't know, the codename for the last Granular version, Granular 0.90, was Esto Vello. So, we are continuing the Esto series with the same "V" alphabet next to "Esto".

Celebrating Granular Linux's 1st anniversary

I am happy to announce that today, 31st of December, is the 1st birthday of Granular. On this very day, I want to THANK all the team members, ex- team members, contributors, forum members & mods, critics, and all the users, who helped me make the dream of Granular Project come true one year ago....
