Granular 1.0 Released

After a long wait, Granular 1.0 is finally out. And we are pretty much excited about this release because this is the first stable Granular release since about a year, and because it's version 1, of course. This final release of Granular 1.0 brings with it solid stability, out-of-the-box usefulness, great multimedia experience, support for running Windows software, and all of this & much more in the size of a CD (livecd).

Major packages include Kernel 2.6.26.8, KDE 3.5.10, Enlightenment 0.16.999, Firefox 3.0.4, Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, KOffice 1.6.3, CompizFusion 0.7.6, Gimp 2.6.3, Wine 1.0.1 to name a few. This release builds upon plenty of bug fixes and feature improvements over the last development release (RC).

Again, I want to thank all the developers and contributors in Team Granular, all the members of Granular Community Forums, and the continued support of Granular users who helped achieve this release.

Wishing you a very happy Granularing!

I'd be interested in hearing a review from ya. We do hope you enjoy the new release, and I'm sure you will. And yeah as Anurag has said the pclos repos are not really a concern. Although they have their big update coming soon. hehe and don't get too attached to 1.0 cause hopefully development will be moving pretty quickly for the next release.

Granular 1.0

I have been using Granular 1.0 for a few weeks now and I just love it.Everything works perfectly well on my computer-monitor,printer,etc.I am so pleased with the distro that I also installed it on my daughters computer, after removing MS XP Pro-constant virus issues. It took her a few days to get used to it but now she likes it better than her previous operating system.
A big salute guys.

Granular 1.0 Release

Hello Anurag,Chrisz & all Granular Team members,

Many congrats on the release of this latest Granular 1.0 Release, indeed it is the best news of year 2009 for me.

Downloading it right now and will report back with my feedbacks asap.

not to ask questions here but since it is a critical one so I dare to ask here.

Since Granular Linux is heavily depending on PCLinuxOS and they have left the repos frozen for couple of months now so how would we get packages updates on Granular? PCLinuxOS team strongly ask not to upgrade anything at this moment from repos.

Many best wishes again,

Regards,

Fedora based?

The fact that granular is based on pclinux is cause of some concern. In the long term would it not be better based on Mandriva or, better still, Fedora?

Thanks for the input, and

Thanks for the input, and our plans are to make granular as stand alone as possible. Of course there are plans in the works for new packages, and making the move to kde4. So I would say yes we will re-evaluate everything, and continue with the progress of Granular Linux. Oh and yes Fedora is great, and by far one of the best out there. I do like, and am also very much a fan of Mandriva.

Cause of concern, but why?

We don't have any plans to change the base yet.

Saleem, We'll try to keep

Saleem,

We'll try to keep our own repository as updated as possible. And yes, the PCLinuxOS repo has been frozen for a while, but it will be back pretty soon. Also, it's their "testing" section of repo that they recommend not to use. So, you don't have to worry about that as Granular does not use the "testing" section by default.

Wonderful

A very monumental moment for GRANULAR. Special thanks to the community for their patience and input.
